Sometimes when I come back to Tennessee and lose myself in a crowd of relatives, I feel strangely alienated.

“There is something different about you,” – my cousins say. I can't explain them that I have to be a little bit different.

You have to be 100% French to feel yourself at home in Paris, you have to be born Cuban to be one of their own in their Miami.

The same way, you have to think sharper and behave smarter if you want to call yourself a native New Yorker.
